When

Ongoing

More than 500 volunteers help look after Zealandia's wildlife sanctuary in the hills above Wellington, and there's a wide range of ways to get involved. Year-round roles include supplementary feeding for hihi and kākā and checking the perimeter fence, while seasonal roles cover species monitoring, planting, and responding to any predator incursions.

There's also a Fenceline Grass Management team keeping the firebreak around the sanctuary clear, which involves working with machinery like scrub cutters and weed trimmers.

Email the volunteer team to find out what's currently available and how to get started.
