Milford Track Maintenance Volunteer

Department of Conservation

Location

Southland

Milford Track, Fiordland National Park

When

Ongoing

Spend a week on the Milford Track — one of New Zealand's Great Walks — doing hands-on trail maintenance. Tasks include scrub-barring, track clearing, hut cleaning, and minor building repairs.

This is a physically demanding role. Expect 8+ hour days tramping and working in remote backcountry. A current first aid certificate is preferred. DOC provides hut accommodation and waives hut fees.

Spaces are limited and allocated by ballot. One of the most sought-after volunteer opportunities in New Zealand.
