Hut Restoration Working Bee — Backcountry Trust

Backcountry Trust

Location

Nationwide

Backcountry huts across Aotearoa

When

Ongoing

Join a working bee to restore a backcountry hut on public conservation land. Tasks include painting, roof repairs, building bunks, de-leading huts for kea protection, and track clearing.

Working bees typically run over a weekend. The Trust provides materials, tools, and coordination. You'll need your own tramping gear and fitness to reach the hut.

Over 100 huts restored since 2014. These working bees are legendary — hard work, beautiful locations, and amazing camaraderie. Spaces fill fast.
